FLYING Magazine App Reviews

Although FLying is still one of the best aviation magazines, the app that delivers it to remote readers is really disappointing. Very long to react to any command input, it bombs out much to often. The enjoyment of reading the magazine is marred by a poorly performing app.

The contents are quite good (albeit mirrors the web site almost 1:1), but the app is trash. Takes forever and a day to load and then may or may not work. I am using a iPad 2. My other subscriptions work without a problem. There was an update for a week or so, but subjectively it seems as if the app is even slower now. In a nutshell: Content = VERY GOOD; App = CRAP

I have a subscription valid until April 2013. I was able to download ONE edition, since then NOTHING, the developers do not respond nor o the editors. Have waited for updates - nothing. Have reinstalled the App - now have NO editions to read. Using in-App support request leads to an error "support request could not be submitted - please try again later. This App is probably the worst App I have ever seen, other subscriptions work but this one wont. If I could give less than one star, this is the App to receive minus 200 million stars. DO NOT BUY anything from within the App, you will NOT receive it, the developers will ignore you - you have been warned.

Tried to download the Feb. 2011 issue but once completed you cant access the magazine...? Ive contacted Flying to see what the fix is. Hopefully Ill have better news soon. Dont download yet!

Piece of crap! Very unstable app that crashes. It sells you magazine issues for $2.99 then crashes. Very disappointing, I feel ripped off and will not buy the physical magazine as a result of this bad experience.

Be aware. This app is broken on iOS 4.3. You cannot view magazines previously purchased, or newly purchased.

So despite the negative reviews I download the app and buy the current edition. Doesnt open! Arggh, so I try again and guess what, it charges me again and still wont open. $6.00 later and I never got my magazines. Rip-off!

The app still has lots of bugs. I have an annual subscription but the app wont let me download the latest issue (the September 2011 issue) without paying for it because the app thinks its the October issue for some reason which I shouldnt have to pay for anyway since Im subscriber. Arrg! I wont download the issue until this is fixed which means probably wont be able to read it for a while even though Im subscribed for the next year! Its stupid to have to pay twice for an issue. The app also takes a long time to load and a long time to access an issue. There is no way to delete issues either but these problems pale in comparison to the subscription downloading problem.

It looks great, but when I click on download for the september issue, it always hangs my iPad or it kills the app, so it doesnt work!

I downloaded the July and August issues, no problem (other than the fact that you cant see those double-page pictures properly: they dont fit on the screen and you cant zoom out. Not very smart.) Now that the October issue is available, I cant download. I called the publisher, they say they cant help: I have to resolve the issue with the Apple Store !?!? Im not renewing the subscription.

App is not working... Rip off! I paid for a year and can get my download.

The current version (2.4) still causes my I-pad running 5.0.1 to lock up when using the Flying app. Exiting the app and retrying will sometimes get around this, but the lock ups still come back. Previous versions (before 2.3)did not have this issue.

I loved version 1 of this app. It had a number of very useful features like, in landscape mode, scrolling down took you to the next page in the article and scrolling right took you to the next article. Version 2 is buggy. The biggest problem is that it hangs, sometimes for minutes, when you open a new magazine. Worse, it tends to do the same when you return to the app after switching to something else. I miss version 1s much better interface, but v2s frequent hanging will drive you nuts. PLEASE FIX IT.

This app used to work flawlessly, but now it freezes all the time. I have an annual subscription and cant read the magazines because they wont open. Again, it used to work great and now I want my money back. I dont know if other magazines have the same issues but I dont think so because others seem to get good reviews. PLEASE FIX

Good but flawed. The app takes 5 minutes or more to load before it allows you to read your downloads. Hopefully a fix is on its way!!!!

Purchased yearly subscription but was still charged for monthly subsriptions. Went to publisher to get refund, spent an hour providing all the proof they requested and then they came back saying I had to deal with Apple to get my refund.

Stay away from this app until they fix it. I have a few copies that I havent read because I cant open them yet they still want my money. Im surprised they havent fixed this yet. Maybe they dont care?

Great magazine, but horribly unstable. Go purchase the yearly subscription through Zinio instead. It is the same price, and works seamlessly with my Plane and Pilot subscription.
