FLYING Magazine App revisa

Flying Magazine

Superbe mensuel; encore plus sympa sois iPad.

Review

I wish they would allow the readers to purchase hard copies of the back issues they have missed, if they allow the reader to purchase hard copies of back issues they don’t make it easy too!

Horrible app

Worthless app. No way to read offline (for those times when you would really like to read a magazine because the Wi-Fi is down on your 14-hour transpacific flight). There is also no way to restore a purchase once the app has decided that you’re no longer allowed to access your paid subscription. Removed app and canceled subscription.

New owner has ruined a once great publication

Long time subscriber. Enjoyed the hard copy version the most. The latest owner has reduced content and raised prices. I still decided to stay. I subscribed to the email version back in June 2023. I received one email link to one edition. That’s it. So I called in October and a recording stated to call back because the phone system was being updated. I emailed requesting a refund. No response. Summation of new owner: raise prices, cut content and ignore your subscribers when they contact you. I’m done. The end of a once great publication.

Cannot restore purchase using Apple account

I’m have tried for a year. No customer support ability. Will cancel subscription

Who would call these “improvements”

You limit the number of issues, the app won’t allow reading offline, you tout the new feel of better paper… seriously? These are things that would be fixed by the old subscription and owners. My subscription is cancelled and Plane and Pilot is the beneficiary.

(UPDATE) Frustrated subscriber cannot read my latest issue

There is no account management or ability to sign in and I cannot figure out how to read my flying mag digital edition. The application just seems to bloated with advertisements and impossible to use. I just want to be able to select library, select my issue and have a great reading experience. Update: The latest app fixes the ability to actually read. Your login is your customer ID. The reading experience is lack luster trying to get full screen. Also it crashes if you try to press the top right button (I thought that would expand the view) but crashes on all iOS devices.

New version!!

So much better. Now I can read back issues!!

Very disappointing changes … cancelled subscription

I’ve been a long time subscriber (and decades long reader) of Flying Magazine. The dramatic changes to the app were all for the worse. The readability of the content suffered and virtually every new “feature” of the app and interface detracted from the user experience - and the social media like format has compromised the benefits of longer form and more in depth content. I was hoping they would recognize that these changes are unwelcome and revise the app significantly, but I’ve seen no indication that’s going to happen and have reluctantly cancelled my subscription.

Back Issues

I lost all my back issues library Want my back magazine back , I pay for them!!! Awful App , dont waste your money

Past and current issues are gone!

Very frustrated that I can’t read even the current issue via the app without clicking on each article one at a time. Might as well just surf the web. And the past issue library is completely gone. I stopped saving the paper issues some time ago because I thought I would always be able to access past articles online but now all the great past articles are gone. Very sad to lose the archive as many of those older articles were an aviation treasure.

Bad update

This app really went downhill

Subscription Not Working

The digital edition is a joke. The latest app revision made it so I couldn’t access my downloaded issues offline, so I deleted and reinstalled the app. Then it didn’t give me an option to restore my iTunes purchase. I e-mailed technical support a few days ago but no response yet. I called Flying customer support today but they said they don’t provide support for the digital app. Then they told me the e-Mail address I used was wrong (it was the one in the app) and proceeded to give me another e-mail address to contact them with. I’m about to contact Apple and request a refund for my subscription. It’s pathetic. You guys could do so much better. It’s probably time for me to pull the plug for good until you decide to go back to monthly issues anyhow. So long Flying Magazine. I’ll stick to my monthly AOPA mags and maybe add Plane and Pilot instead.

Canceled subscription

What happened? I’d just like to read the magazine on my iPad.. is this so difficult? After much frustration, I give up. Subscription canceled.. and I wish I could get a refund for the remaining few months, as I won’t be attempting to read this confusing and unstable app.

Latest upgrade isn’t

Now I can’t access the magazine offline. I can’t imagine who thought this was an improvement

Previous version was 5 stars

I’m trying to figure out how the latest version of this ap is an improvement. The previous ability to scroll each issue and page in digital format like reading the print version was great. Hopefully this previous feature will be restored with enough pushback from readers.

Not What It Was

It used to be a decent app. It had its problems, but you could easily find your saved issues. Most importantly you could scroll though a digital magazine, page by page pretty much like a print version. Now an issue appears like a collection of FaceBook posts. Hugely disappointing. Probably the end of a lifelong (since I was 16 - I’m 63 now) relationship with first the print editions and for the last several years, the digital version. 😢

Not good

I just cant download new issues. I have a valid subscription until april22 but cannot find the latest issue

Useless Garbage

Can’t log in, can’t restore purchases, can’t view issues. I don’t care at all about flying mag’s facebook page. The last thing I ever want to see is facebook content. Unbelievably useless app.

Not at all UserFriendly

I am using the new version of this app and it is so frustrating. I finally figured out that you need to click on the “Topics” button to get previous issues. Then, in an issue, there is no way to easily get to the content you want. And, if you put the device to sleep and come back two minutes later, you have to go through the whole process again IF you can remember where you were! And the app will not flip to landscape. And, And, And ….. Please bring the old version back. Please!

Poor app

Cant use offline.

This app is garbage!

I paid for my subscription and downloaded this app, but it does not work. System says I am logged in to my account, but it will not allow me to read articles. I keep getting messages that I am reading only previews of articles and the app wants me to buy the magazine. I already bought it, so why can’t I read my magazine? I deleted the app and downloaded it again. Same result - unable to read articles. The help articles are equally useless. Written by people who can barely put together a sentence, there’s no actual help. A most dissatisfied user.

Subscription not working

I have a subscription, but every month the only way to download the magazine is to purchase the single issue, download it and then ask for a refund from Apple. I have deleted the app, logged in again, restored purchases, but nothing works. Very frustrating.

Terrible App !

Every time I want to read I have to update the app...every darn time ! What a waste. Fix your stuff or don’t release it.

Atrocious APP

Absolute disgrace. New fix still does no good. Cannot acquire new Flying magazines issues with either updated app on IPad 4 or older versions. Older iPad 3 is longer useable for downloading the app update and will not allow me to reload the older app version. Still requires buying another subscription even though it recognizes me. Will not give me access to current issues.

Ditto what everyone else said

Too many problems with this app and updates change nothing. Come on Flying, get your act together. The magazine is great but your app is horrible. Last change deleted my library and I can’t get it back.

App is DOA

I’ll reiterate what others have said: The app somehow pulled an email address that I had stopped using years ago (and changed on the Flying website) and won’t let me change it again. I used the account number to log in but still can’t get access to the media. Every “update” wipes out the issues in your library and you have to figure out how to get access again. Instructions are either non-existent or incorrect. This new version doesn’t work at all. Bonnier needs to hire new app writers. I’ve deleted it and will just read the print version. It’s sad....

You’d think they’d eventually get this right

You know, I had gotten use to having to log out, log back in and restore purchases to regain access to my digital subscription on every update. Then came the updates that required further steps to remove “Buy Issue” button and restore the “Download” button. But this update really takes things to a new level. You now have to recreate your account. Anybody else notice the help articles in the FAQ tell you to only use the first 9 digits of your account number? That of course fails ( and I love that it tells you to contact customer service but doesn’t give you contact info). When I use the full 10 digits I make some progress except that it references an incorrect email (that explains why it didn’t recognize the correct email ) and won’t let me edit it (Flying's online customer service does recognize the correct email). I give up. Deleted the app. The publisher of this app is the supposed leader in this field. Absolute waste of my time. As mention by others, just assume you won’t have access to the digital version.

Placard app INOP and ignore

I was pleased that the app seemed to work well for most of the year - I’m a print subscriber and it allowed me to read on my iPad for convenience. The latest update broke the app again - it wants me to pay again to read my subscription. I would advise avoiding the IOS app altogether - digital access to an existing Flying magazine subscription is so unreliable that subscribers should assume that there is no digital access (contrary to what the Flying magazine website says when you subscribe to the print edition.) Sorry to report that the app for the most venerated and popular aviation publication should be placarded as INOP, again. Will of course be delighted if a future update ever restores functionality, but not optimistic.

Doesn’t work at all

So much for improved. Someone needs to sue. Flying still advertises read it on your iPad - WRONG!

Worst app ever

App doesn’t work plain and simple

Terrible app for a dying magazine

Before the latest update the app worked *some* of the time, often needing a log-out and in to read magazines. Now, with the most recent update it will not even recognize an active magazine subscription. With plans to already *NOT* renew my print subscription, this has sealed the proverbial coffin. Unfortunate, the articles used to be enjoyable, now they are cliche and tiresome. I imagine the non-professional pilot may find them entertaining, but the lack of any technical information except for sales blurbs makes it worth less then the paper it’s printed on.

App does not work

Wow, the new interface is great! I should probably overlook the fact that the update does not work. I have tried repeatedly to reset my password (as required), but none of the new passwords have worked... Believe me, I've tried. No, I did not include the quotes. Yes, I did match the case. One star is overly generous. I have emailed customer support numerous times over the past two days to no avail. The one clueless human response I received directed me to a non-existent Apple support page. This isn't Apple's fault. I could read my issues without a problem until the update. Sigh...

Horrible update

Used to work fine but latest update no longer allows me to view anything. I’m a print subscriber and it wants me to pay for a new subscription.

Can’t download issues

I am a print subscriber.. I can log in without issue, but cannot download any issues, unless I subscribe {which i already am a subscriber]. All my previous issues are gone as well..

Disappointing App

I’ll preface my review by asking any readers out there who know how to use this “updated” app to let me in on the secret. Otherwise, like the majority of reviews, this updated version is disappointing. Despite following the instructions provided in the email from Flying, I am unable to restore my purchases and, subsequently, read the magazine electronically. I thankfully still receive the paper version of Flying and will continue to rely on that until this issue can be resolved - hopefully soon.

Print Subscriber Can’t View Issues

I am a print subscriber and the app recognizes my login. All issues require me to pay for the digital copy. This latest app update totally broke my ability to view issues on the iPad.

Less than thrilled

I am a print subscriber, but I also use this electronic version of the magazine too. The previous version of the app was workable, but a major issue was the fact that every time the app restarted it started reading from the start of the magazine. I would answer a phone call and then would have to navigate from the cover to where I was just reading. That was very annoying. Now I have upgraded to the latest version. It is requiring me to sign in again, but what is truly annoying is that it doesn’t recognize my print subscription. I am starting to regret my recent decision to renew my subscription. The magazine and content are wonderful, but the delivery is questionable.

Magazine is Great - App is for the Birds

The app’s lousy. It’s forever asking me to subscribe to issues when I’ve had a subscription for years. Logging in and out doesn’t help, and I have to delete and reinstall the app periodically. When it works it’s a convenient way to read the magazine, and considering the app essentially does nothing but allow you to open and read issues, you’d think it would be simple to have a stable app, but no. This is been going on for years by the way and shows no sign of improvement. I subscribe to the print magazine so end up reading the issues more often then on my iPad. August 2019 update - see above. Nothing’s been fixed and the latest version, once I log into the app, doesn’t seem to even know I’m a subscriber. SMH...

Disappointed Print Subscriber

App let’s me log in and recognizes that I have an account but is forcing me to buy issues I already paid for as a subscriber and I lost all of the previous downloaded issues when the app updated. This has happened on several occasions the last couple of years. Terrible IT support makes for a terrible app.

Update still doesn’t work

08/23/19 After 3 days of frustration I can finally log in, but it won’t download anything. All of my downloaded issues are gone, it won’t restore them. It worked fine before this.

New App doesn’t recognize subscription

I have a subscription, I can log in via the website, but when logging into the app it tells me that I do not a subscription. When you seek help in the app, it is just as useless.

Great magazine but lousy app and poor developer support

Similar to many other reviews, I have been a Flying Magazine subscriber for well over 10 years (paper then digital). I truly don’t understand what is so hard for the developers of the app to produce updates that do not reset your login and / or subscription information. I like to read various articles during cruise flight, but never can because the app is constantly requiring you to restore all your previous purchases. Really miss the Flying Archive app as well which had a lot of great magazines dating back much further than the current app.

Good magazine, dreadful app.

Constantly asks you to subscribe despite already having a subscription. Doesn’t recognize your subscription when you try to ‘log in’. It’s been like this for years with no sign of a resolution from the developer.

Solid magazine deserves a working app

One of the worst apps ever. Apple should stop selling the magazine thru iTunes and have subscribers work directly with the publisher. It will not restore purchases as described. I’m paying for a magazine I cannot read. And customer support - isn’t! RIDICULOUS.

Huh

Content is great, when I could buy the magazines. If you all want to sell me more ya’lol should fix the app

Worst app, great magazine

Says it all, same as many others, looking for a refund now Paul Gillies

App

App performs as it pleases. Not reliable!!

Lousy app

The app is always asking you to subscribe and restore purchases. Even though I have been a subscriber since 2015. Same problem for ever. They know it. All the reviews say the same thing. Guess they just don’t care.

Terrible App

When it works it’s good. It never works. Always asks iTunes subscribers to “Login”, but that produces a message saying purchases are being restored. No progress image for this “restore” so you can never tell when it’s ready. Total fail.
